Back In The Saddle

I’m back

I’m back in the saddle again

I’m back

I’m back in the saddle again

Ridin’ into town alone

By the light of the moon

I’m looking for ol Sukie Jones

She crazy horse saloon

Barkeep gimme a drink

That’s when she caught my eye

She turned to give me a wink

That make a grown man cry

(Chorus)

Come easy, go easy

All right until the rising sun

I’m calling all the shots tonight

I’m like a loaded gun

Peelin’ off my boots and chaps

I’m saddle sore

Four bits gets you time in the racks

I scream for more

Fools’ gold out of their mines

The girls are soaking wet

Not tounge’s drier than mine

I’ll come when I get back

I’m back in the saddle again

I’m back

I’m back in the saddle again

I’m riding, I’m loading up my pistol

I’m riding, I really got a fistful

I’m riding, I’m shining up my saddle

I’m riding, this snake is gonna rattle

(Chorus)

Ridin’ high

Ridin’ high

Ridin’ high already

2.  Last Child

(I’m dreaming tonight, I’m leaving back home)

Right!

Take me back to a south Tallahassee

Down cross the bridge to my sweet sassafrassy

Can’t stand up on my feet in the city

Gotta get back to the real nitty gritty

Yes sir, no sir

Don’t come close to my

Home sweet home

Can’t catch no dose

Of my hot tail poon tang sweetheart

Sweathog ready to make a silk purse

From a J Paul Getty and his ear

With her face in the beer

3.  Rats In The Cellar

Goin’ under, Rats In The Cellar

Goin’ under, skin’s turnin’ yellow

Nose is runny, losin’ my connection

Losin’ money, getting no affection

New York City blues

East side, West side lose

Throw me in the slam

Catch me if you can

Believe

That you’re wearing

Tearing me apart

Safe complaining, ’cause everything’s rotten

Go insanin’, and ain’t a thing forgotten

Feelin’ cozy, Rats In The Cellar

Cheeks are rosy, skin’s turning yellow

Lose it’s party, lookin’ rather lazy

See my body, pushin up a-daisies

New York City blues

East side, west side lose

Throw me in the slam

Catch me if you can

Believe

That you’re wearing

Tearing me apart

4.  Combination

The street is cold, the dawn is grey

My heart says no but my head says stay

My work is finished, or so I’ve been told

Can’t part the three of us, once we got a hold

I forgot the name

I took a shot on the chin

I’m rearranging my game

Tell by the shape I’m in

In the line of fire, you know what to say

They gave us no choices, just one shade of grey

My legs keep moving, I don’t seem to stray

But I know each step we take, they’re one step away

I found the secret, the key to the vault

We walked in darkness, kept hittin’ the walls

I took the time, to feel for the door

I found the secret, the key to it all

I got the Nouveauree

And dragged it home to bed

I traded you for me

I took it all and said

I find my own fun, sometimes for free

I got to pay it to come looking for me

Walking on Gucci, wearin’ Yves Saint Laurent

Barley stay on, ’cause I’m so damn gaunt

5.  Sick As A Dog

Please, I just got to talk to you

Please, well keep your head out of the loo

Please, we’re a long, long way from home

Please, you’d turn a young man’s face to stone

(Chorus)

Sick As A Dog, what’s your story

Sick As A Dog, a cat got your tongue

Sick As A Dog, you’ll be sorry

Sick As A Dog, ’cause you’re really ain’t that young

Please, you were much to my surprise

Please, you’re a lady in disguise

Please, you’re the only friend I got

Please, you’re the last to see me rot

Please, it’s a shame you’re so refined

Please, she was the last thing on my mind

Please, don’t be late to take it light

Please, you’re gonna bay into the night

Say goodnight

6.  Nobody’s Fault

Lord I must be dreaming

What else could this be

Everybody’s screaming

Running’ for the sea

Holy lands are sinking

Birds take to the sky

The prophets are all stinking drunk

I know the reason why

Eyes are full of desire

Mind is so ill at ease

Everything is on fire

Shit piled up to the knees

Out of rhyme or reason

Everyone’s to blame

Children of the season

Don’t be lame

Sorry, you’re so sorry

Don’t be sorry

Man has known it

Now he’s blown it

Up-side down and hell’s the only way

We did an awful job

And now they say it’s Nobody’s Fault

Old St. Andres

Seven years ago

Shove it up their richters

Red light stop and go

Noble men of courage

Listen with their ears

Spoke but how discouraging

When no one really hears

One of these day’s you’ll be sorry

Too many houses on stilt

Three million years or just a story

Four on the floor up to the hilt

(Chorus)

Man has known it

Now he’s blown it

Up-side down and hell’s the only way

We did an awful job

And now we’re just a little too late

Eyes are full of desire

Mind is so ill at ease

Everything is on fire

Shit piled up in debris

California showtime

Five o’clock’s the news

Everybody’s concubine

Was prone to take a snooze

(Chorus)

7.  Get The Lead Out

Do you like good boogie

Like the real boogie woogie

Hear the juke box singin’

Get the dance hall swingin’

Won’t you grab my shaker

Got to meet your maker

Get out the lead

Get out of bed

Get The Lead Out

(Get ready), I’ll show you my fist

(Get ready), take hold of my wrist

(Get ready), we really can’t miss

(Get ready)

Hey good lookin’

What cha got there cookin’

You a young spring chicken

Make your feet start kickin’

no no, no no, no no, no no

Oh, hey good lookin’

What cha got there cookin’

You a young spring chicken

Make your feet start kickin’

Boot it out, dance without me

8.  Lick And A Promise

Johnny come late on a Saturday night

Singin’ how de do

Backstreet boogie in the house of delight

Where they steal the show

The money come sour but the ladies are sweet

Ad it’s a love affair

Whole place rockin’, people stompin’ their feet

When the gang’s all there

He gets his lovin’ every night for free

He’s out there rockin’ like you wouldn’t believe

Singin’ na, na, na…

Johnny like to gamble with his lady Louise

She was a black jack deuces are wild

He got to thinking ’bout his nose in the breeze

And Johnny looked and he smiled

He started thinking ’bout the fortune and fame

And the young girls down at his knees

He dug the money but forgot all the names

So he knew just how to appease

(Chorus)

Lick And A Promise

Lick And A Promise

Lick And A Promise

(He gave the ladies a) Lick And A Promise

Loose change clover in his early, early years

Had his poor mama pacin’ the floors

He grabbed a guitar and a couple of beers

Now the crowd keeps screamin’ for more

(Repeat Chorus)

9.   Home Tonight

Now it’s time

To say good night to you

And now it’s time

To bid you sweet adieu

And baby, drink a cheers to yesterday

And mabye, you’ll drink those tears away

So baby, don’t let go

Hold on real tight

‘Cause I’ll be Home Tonight

Tonight

After the highly successful Toys in the Attic album of 1975, came Rocks.  Rocks was a highly awaited album because of the success of Toys in the Attic.  In 1976, Aerosmith was on top of the world as were their fans. Many Aerosmith fans waited outside the record store before it opened on the day that the Rocks album was set to be released.  In some cities, lineups of Aerosmith fans had formed outside the record stores which only heightened the buzz surrounding the Rock Band.    Most of those people today, will tell you that they were not disappointed with the Rocks Album, and some would even swear that Aerosmith’s Rocks Album was their best creation to date.

The album consists of nine songs 1. Back In The Saddle    2. Last Child    3. Rats In The Cellar 4. Combination  5. Sick As A Dog     6. Nobody’s Fault 7. Get The Lead Out 8. Lick And A Promise and 9. Home Tonight.  Last Child and Back in the Saddle were immediate FM hits.  Home Tonight was a ballad that also made the charts.

The Rocks album was very influential to many musicians from popular bands who came along after Aerosmith.Members of Guns and Roses, Motley Crue and Metallica have cited this album as leaving a major musical impression on them, and influencing their musical styles.

With the overwhelming success of Rocks came more and more concert tours.  Each time, the stadiums were getting bigger to accommodate the rapidly growing numbers of Aerosmith fans.  The concerts were loud and always filled with non stop energy, leaving concert goers tired and breathless once the concert had ended.

Aerosmith’s next album came out in 1977.  Draw the Line was also highly anticipated, but was not as successful as Aerosmith’s previous two albums.  At this point, drug addiction was starting to catch up to the hard rock band, and it showed in the music that Aerosmith was putting out. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry came to be known as the Toxic Twins during this time because of their drug use on and off the stage.

The band continued to tour and also continued to indulge themselves in the life of a Rock and Roll superstar.  During the same time they were touring, Aerosmith had acted in the movie version of the Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Aerosmith’s cover of  The Beatles ‘Come Together’ song which was released on the movie’s soundtrack album would be their  last top 40 hit for nearly a decade.
